Rainforest Jasper Meaning
Contrary to its name, rainforest jasper is not purely jasper but rather a type of rhyolitic lava. It is a variant of green rhyolite and forms when gas bubbles are trapped within solidifying lava, which are then filled with silica-rich minerals, including quartz crystals. Jasper, being a variety of quartz, might also be present in these volcanic rocks. As a result, it is possible for rainforest jasper to contain traces of the crystal after which it is named.
Its designation may stem from its mottled or speckled appearance, reminiscent of other genuine jaspers. Notably, certain stones referred to as "jaspers" are not true jaspers but silicified rhyolite, such as the orbicular jasper.
