Afghanite Properties
Afghanite is typically an opaque stone available in white or various shades of blue, ranging from dark to light depending on the extraction site. This uncommon stone boasts a vitreous luster and a Mohs hardness rating of 5.5 to 6. It has a specific gravity of 2.55, features a Trigonal crystal system, and is part of the Cancrinite Group. Afghanite, known for its perfect cleavage and white streak, is translucent and appears colorless in thin sections. It is often paired with Lazurite for enhanced effects and can be found as elongated prismatic crystals or in a massive form. Beyond Afghanistan, Afghanite is also mined in countries like Germany, Italy, Canada, Russia, and the USA.
